Morristown, N.J. – Sophomore guard
Maria DeVincenzo (Tampa, Fla./Life Center Academy) scored 21 points to lead the College of Saint Elizabeth women's basketball team past visiting Cedar Crest, 62-52, and clinch a home playoff game with the win inside St. Joseph's Hall on Wednesday night.
The Eagles (18-5, 15-2 CSAC) have clinched at least the No. 2 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference postseason tournament. They will travel to Keystone on Saturday, Feb. 22 for a 1 p.m. tip and battle for a share of the regular season championship and No. 1 seed.
Despite a tightly-contested opening quarter, Saint Elizabeth controlled play throughout the game. Over the second and third quarters, the Eagles outscored Cedar Crest (6-18, 5-12 CSAC) by a score of 32-17 to take a commanding lead that was never in question.
DeVincenzo led all scorers with 21 points on 9-for-16 shooting while added seven rebounds and three steals. Senior guard
Rakiyah Sellers (Newark, N.J./Newark Arts) totaled 12 points, five rebounds, eight assists and four steals. Senior
Kamille Jacobs (Hillside, N.J./Roselle Catholic) contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals.
The Eagles defense limited Cedar crest to just 35.0 percent (21-for-60) shooting from the floor and 26.1 percent (6-for-23) from three-point range.
