Morristown, N.J. – Sophomore guard
Maria DeVincenzo (Tampa, Fla./Life Center Academy) poured in six three-pointers and dished out nine assists as the College of Saint Elizabeth women's basketball team won its sixth straight game after a convincing 82-68 victory over Notre Dame (Md.) inside St. Joseph's Hall on Wednesday night.
The Eagles (16-5, 13-2 CSAC) have now secured either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the CSAC Tournament. A win on Saturday would clinch the No. 2 seed and a home game in the league semifinals.
DeVincenzo finished with 27 points and was 6-for-9 from long range, while senior
Kamille Jacobs (Hillside, N.J./Roselle Catholic) totaled 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists. It was her fifth 20-point game this season. Junior forward
Kamani Williams (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) contributed her 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Saint Elizabeth built its lead to 13 with 6:42 to go in the first half after a jumper by senior guard
Rakiyah Sellers (Newark, N.J./Newark Arts), but a 17-2 run by Notre Dame over the next four and a half minutes gave the Gators a 35-33 lead with 1:45 left before the break. The Eagles regained momentum by closing the opening frame on a 7-0 run to take a 40-35 edge at halftime.
The Eagles added four points to its halftime lead after the third quarter, and used a 12-3 run late in the fourth quarter to take their biggest lead of the game, 76-58, after a clutch three pointer by freshman guard
Zaniyah Stewart with 3:53 left. From there, Saint Elizabeth was able to run clock and secure the victory.
Senior Day is up next for the Eagles when they host Clarks Summit on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. inside St. Joseph's Hall. Prior to the game, Saint Elizabeth will honor its four seniors Jacobs, Sellers,
Dianne Nieves (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) and
Taylor Veve (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional).
