Hackettstown, N.J. – Senior guard
Jason Saldiveri (New Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) finished with 24 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, but the College of Saint Elizabeth fell at first-place Centenary, 107-96, in a gritty Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game on Monday night.
The difference in the game was three-point shooting, and free throw shooting. Saint Elizabeth (11-11, 5-7 CSAC) was 7-for-28 (25.0 percent) from long range, and 13-for-16 (81.3 percent) at the charity stripe. However, Centenary (15-7, 10-1 CSAC) shot 12-for-27 (44.4 percent) from three-point land, and 27-for-34 (79.4 percent) from the free throw line.
Saint Elizabeth trailed 46-33 at halftime, and was never able to get the lead under eight points over the final 20 minutes, despite outscoring the Cyclones 63-61 in the second half.
Junior
Darnill Brown (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown) scored 21 points and was 9-for-16 from the field. Senior guard
Cam Tucker (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) finished with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Senior guard
Lance Rhoden (Orange, N.J./Orange) had 16 points and two steals.
The Eagles turned the ball over just eight times, held a 56-38 advantage in paint points, 20-5 lead in points off turnovers, 36-29 lead in fast break points, and 46-30 edge in bench points.
Looking ahead, Saint Elizabeth will honor its six seniors in their final home game on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. against Clarks Summit.
