Morristown, N.J. – Senior guard
Cam Tucker (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) scored his 1,000th career point on Wednesday night, but the College of Saint Elizabeth men's basketball team suffered a 71-66 setback to Centenary inside St. Joseph's Hall.
The Eagles (11-7, 5-3 CSAC) trailed throughout, and by as many as 13 with 3:49 remaining in regulation. However, an inspired 12-2 run ensued, and Saint Elizabeth cut the lead to just two, 66-64, after a layup by senior center
Roland Romano (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) with 1:07 remaining.
After the Cyclones (12-7, 7-1 CSAC) scored a layup on their next possession, sophomore
Jarek Johnson (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Twp) drained a tough bucket in the paint to cut it 68-66 with 22 seconds left. From there, Centenary connected on its free throws, and the Eagles could not find another score.
Senior guard
Lance Rhoden (Orange, N.J./Orange) finished with a game-high 16 points and totaled eight rebounds and three steals. Tucker and senior guard
Ted Thelemaque (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) added 12 points each.
Looking ahead, Saint Elizabeth will travel to Wilson and take on the Pheonix at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1.
