Morristown, N.J. — The College of Saint Elizabeth women's volleyball team took on Rutgers-Newark Tuesday night and lost in straight sets, 3-0. The Eagles are now 2-2 on the season.
The Eagles got off to a slow start in the opening set, as they never really got their bearings and fell, 25-15. The second game, however, was a different story. After going down 6-0, they stormed back and ended up taking the lead at 24-22. However, the Raiders ultimately came away with a 27-25 victory in the second set. The third game was close into mid match with the score at one point being 17-16, but Rutgers-Newark closed the set on an 8-1 run to secure the match victory.
Saint Elizabeth put up a valiant effort, and with that came some strong performances by the Eagles. Junior
Maura Farley (Iselin, N.J.) led multiple stats for the Eagles with three aces, two blocks, and nine assists, while also contributing seven kills. Senior Yas Muhammad (Newark, N.J.) led Saint Elizabeth with eight kills and nine digs. Senior
Stephanie Mitarotonda (East Rutherford, N.J.) contributed six kills and tied for the lead with nine digs on the night.
Saint Elizabeth will look to get back into the win column as they travel to Purchase, N.Y. to take on the Valiants of Manhattanville on Thursday, Sep. 12 at 7 p.m.
