Deja Ingram recorded her 1,000th career rebound but it was not as the College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (9-7, 8-3 NEAC) fell to the College of New Rochelle, 57-51Â on Monday evening.
Just nine rebounds away from 1,000, Ingram was on a mission early, grabbing eight rebounds in the first six minutes. Â With 3:37 remaining in the first quarter, Ingram grabbed a rebound off her own miss, her ninth of the game and 1,000th for her career. Â Ingram finished the game with 12 points and 19 rebounds.
After falling behind 7-2 midway through the first quarter, the Eagles ended the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 12-9 lead into the second period.
The Blue Angels of New Rochelle came out strong in the second half, going on a 9-1 run over the first eight minutes to take a 22-13 advantage. Â The Eagles scored the final six points of the half to cut the deficit to 22-19 at the break.
The Eagles continued the momentum in the third quarter, scoring the first five points to take a 24-22 lead. Â Both teams went back and forth over the remainder of the quarter as the Blue Angles to a 35-34 lead into the final quarter.
New Rochelle opened the final period by scoring the first seven points to take a 42-34 advantage. Â Trailing 44-37, the Eagles scored the next four points to slice the deficit to three. Â With the Eagles trailing by one with 50 seconds remaining,
Maria DeVincenzo scored the next seven points, give the Eagles a six-point lead, that the Eagles would not give up, taking the game, 57-51.
Kamille Jacobs finished with 15 points while DeVincenzo added 13 points, 14 rebounds and four steals.
CSE returns to action on Tuesday for a pivotal conference game when it hosts Penn State Abington at 6 pm.
