Lancaster, Pa. – The College of Saint Elizabeth men's basketball team dropped a pair of non-conference games in the Sponaugle New Years' Tournament, falling to the host Franklin & Marshall, 70-43 on Sunday, before coming up short 83-72 against Mary Washington on Monday.
Senior
Roland Romano (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) led the Eagles (6-4) in their opening game of the tournament with 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field. He also grabbed seven rebounds and was 5-for-8 at the free throw line. The host Diplomats (4-5) held Saint Elizabeth to just 30.8 percent shooting from the floor, and shot 50.0 percent (8-for-16) from three point range to build an insurmountable lead.
On Monday, Saint Elizabeth held a 37-34 halftime lead, however Mary Washington pulled away in the second half to edge the Eagles. Senior guard
Jason Saldiveri (New Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) scored a season-high 25 points, while fellow senior guard
Cam Tucker (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) piled up 13 points, eight boards and four steals.
Looking ahead, the Eagles return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. against CSAC foe Cairn inside St. Joseph's Hall.
