Morristown, N.J. – Senior guard
Jason Saldiveri (New Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) finished with a team-high 16 points, five assists and five steals as the College of Saint Elizabeth men's basketball team delivered a 74-70 season-opening win over visiting CCNY on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (1-0) had two others score in double-figures including senior
Cam Tucker (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) who scored 13 points, and sophomore forward
Jarek Johnson (Burlington, N.J./Burlington) who finished with 10.
CCNY (0-1) led by as many as eight in the second half, 60-52, with 9:56 remaining. With 6:35 left in the game, CCNY held a 65-62 lead. However, the Eagles held the Beavers to just one field goal in the final seconds and a pair of free throws over the final 6:35 to seal the victory.
Saint Elizabeth limited CCNY to just 36.8 percent shooting from the floor and forced 22 turnovers.
