MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's men's basketball team (5-11, 2-7 NEAC) used a huge second half to complete the come from behind win over Bryn Athyn College 87-84, on Tuesday afternoon.
Jason Saldiveri was stellar on offense for the Eagles, finishing with 33 points on 14-21 from the floor.
Cam Tucker added 23 points and seven rebounds while
Jordan Simmons pitched in with eight points and five rebounds.
The first half saw quick paced action as the Lions from Bryn Athyn took a 13-6 lead four minutes into the game. Both teams continued to push the pace as Saldiveri's layup at the 13:53 mark tied the game at 15. Over the next six minutes, the Lions took control, taking its largest lead of the game at 30-21. The Lions lead by as many as 14 before CSE closed the gap in the final four minutes, taking a 45-36 deficit into halftime.
The Lions took an early 13-point lead in the second half before the Eagles came storming with an 8-0 run to get within 63-58. Trailing 66-59, Simmons buried his first three-pointer of the game to get the Eagles within four. With 8:10 to go in the game,
Kar'ron Johnson nailed a corner three-pointer to tie the game at 73. After forcing a Lions turnover, Tucker swished home a three-pointer of his own, giving the Eagles its first lead of the second half at 73-70.
With just over four minutes remaining, Tucker took it coast to coast for an easy layup to give CSE a 78-73 lead, its largest of the game. The Lions battled back to get within one, before Saldiveri drove and got fouled, converting on both freebies to give the Eagles an 84-81 lead with 1:06 to go. Despite the Lions getting to within one, Tucker knocked down two clutch free-throws to regain a three-point lead for the Eagles. In the final eight seconds, the Lions launched a game tying three-pointer, narowly missing as the Eagles held on for the 87-84 victory.
CSE returns to action on Saturday when it travels to the Nation's Capitol to take on Gallaudet University at 1 pm.
