Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's volleyball team (3-10, 1-3 NEAC) dropped a tough matchup with Rutgers-Newark, 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 17-25, 16-25) on Tuesday evening.
Maura Farley led the Eagles with 18 assists, nine digs, seven kills, and four service aces.
Yasmin'na Muhammad finished with five kills and a service ace while
Jessica Garreffa added 18 digs.
After the Knights controlled the first set by winning 25-17, the Eagles took an early 3-1 lead in the second set. While Rutgers-Newark scored four straight points to open a 9-6 lead, the Eagles took the next seven points as
Diane Cuevas served six straight points to give the Eagles its largest lead of the set at 13-9. The Knights would not give up in the set, going on a seven-point run of their own to regain a 20-18 lead. With the Eagles clinging to a 24-23 match point lead,
Stacey Medina and
Rhonyelle Sowell cmbined for a block assist to give the Eagles the two-point set win.
The Eagles fought hard in the final two sets, but could not manage to take control in either, dropping the third set, 25-17 and the fourth set, 26-16.
CSE returns to action on Thursday when they travel to William Paterson at 7 pm.
