Scranton, Pa. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's volleyball team (0-2, 0-0 NEAC) dropped their first two matches of the season at Scranton Invitational, 3-1 to NJCU and 3-0 to Shenandoah University on Friday night.
In game one against NJCU, the Eagles won the opening set before dropping the game 3-1 (25-20, 25-27, 17-25, 16-25). CSE looked string early on, opening multiple five-point leads in the first set. After NJCU sliced the deficit to one,
Yasmin'na Muhammad scored two of the next four points to open up a 21-16 lead. Both teams traded points before the Eagles forced back to back attack errors by NJCU, giving the Eagles set one.
The second set went back and forth for majority of the set before the Eagles took their first lead at 18-17. NJCUÂ fought back to take a one-point lead at match point. The Eagles managed to force an error to tie it up, but dropped the next two points as NJCU tied the match at one. The Eagles battled throughout the final two sets, but could not close either out, dropping the contest in four sets.
Maura Farley and
Yasmin'na Muhammad finished with team high six kills, while
Stephanie Mitarotonda added four service aces. Farley also finished with 11 digs.
In the second match, the Eagles fell to Shenandoah, 3-0 (20-25, 9-25, 9-25). Muhammad paced the Eagles with eight kills and and a service ace. Mitarotonda added a game high eight digs, while
Jessica Garreffa finished with four digs and a service ace.
The Eagles return to action for day two of the Scranton Invitational on Saturday when it faces Mount Aloysius and Wells, beginning at 9:30 am.
