Morristown, N.J. - Shanice Smith scored her 1,000th career point and grabbed her 1,000th career rebound as Lancaster Bible College defeated the College of Saint Elizabeth (7-12, 7-7 NEAC), 76-59 on Thursday evening.
Smith was one of three Chargers in double-figures. Aubrey Folger added 24 points and 12 rebounds for Lancaster.
Ashley Pledger had one of her best games of the season, scoring 23 points on 9/16 from the field. Pledger also added three rebounds and six steals for the Eagles.
The first quarter continued to be a struggle for the Eagles, scoring just six points on 3/18 from the floor. Lancaster used a 7-0 run followed by a 10-0 run to take a 25-6 lead into the second period.
Lancaster pushed the lead to 24 midway through the second quarter. The Eagles, however, would not back down, ending the quarter on a 13-4 run to get within 38-23 heading into halftime.
After Lancaster took a 60-36 lead at the end of the third period, the Eagles opened up the final quarter on an 8-0 run, lead by Pledger. Pledger continued to play solid defense, causing back to back turnovers, leading to fast break points as the Eagles got to within 16. CSE would not be able to continue the momentum, dropping the contest by 17.
Amerisse Rogers scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds while
Sharolin Sanders and
LaChe Robinson each contributed with six points a piece.
CSE returns to action this weekend when they travel to Cazenovia and Morrisville.
