New Rochelle, N.Y. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's men's basketball team (1-1, 0-0 NEAC) was edged in its first road game of the season to the College of New Rochelle, 93-87 on Tuesday evening.
Freshman
Cameron Tucker had a season high 23 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Eagles.
Marlon Hart tallied his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds while
Scott Bradley added 11 points.
New Rochelle had five players in double-figures including Hunter Schenkel who finished with 23 points and 18 rebounds.
Both offenses got off to a hot start as the Eagles took a 21-20 lead midway through the first half. Over the next five minutes, New Rochelle went on an 18-8 run to take their largest lead of the game at nine. Despite the Eagles slicing the deficit to five, the Blue Angels took a 10 point lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles stormed out of the gate as
Tino Gonzalez knocked down a three-pointer, followed by back to back three's by Tucker to trim the lead to three. CSE managed to get within one but could not take the lead as New Rochelle upped the advantage to five with 11 minutes remaining in the game.Â
Despite the Blue Angels leading by as much as seven, CSE would not go away as Tucker nailed another three-pointer, giving the Eagles their first lead of the second half at 74-73. New Rochelle regained the lead with three minutes remaining, and despite the CSE hanging within one possession until the final 20 seconds, they cold not complete the comeback, falling 93-87.
The Eagles return to action next Tuesday when they host Penn State Berks at 8 pm.
