Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's lacrosse team (1-13, 0-9 NEAC) won their first game of the season, defeating Cedar Crest College 15-13 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Kassandra Ortiz put home a goal that was assisted from Ashley Morera. After the Falcons scored the next 2 goals, Jessica Nunez put home her third goal of the season off a free position shot to tie the score at 2. Trailing 3-2, Amanda Inacio tied the score up at 3 with her first goal of the game. Kiana Cunningham added her first goal of the game which was followed by Inacio's 2nd goal of the game to open up a 5-3 lead for the Eagles.
After the Falcons tied the score up at 5, Cunningham put home her second goal of the game at the 11:03 mark to give CSE a 6-5 lead. With 7:50 remaining in the half, Riley Hosey put home a free position shot to open up a 7-5 lead. Morera would add her 2nd goal of the game late in the half to give the Eagles an 8-7 lead. Kelly Dibendetto would add her first goal of the season with 45 seconds remaining in the half to give the Eagles a 9-7 halftime lead.
Cunningham got the Eagles on the board in the second half, scoring her first career hat trick to give CSE a 10-8 lead. Cunningham would add her 4th goal of the game at the 27:39 mark to open up a 3 goal lead. After the Falcons scored the next 2 goals, Mariah Lavornia knocked home her first career goal to give the Eagles a 12-10 lead. After the Falcons tied the game up at 12, Inacio scored her 3nd goal of the game to once again give the Eagles a 13-12 lead.
With 10:44 remaining, Cunningham put home her 5th goal of the game to give the Eagles a 2 goal lead. With 4:52 remaining, Hosey added her second goal of the game to give the Eagles a 15-12 lead. Despite the Falcons adding a late goal, the Eagles held on 15-13 for their first win of the season.
Kiana Cuningham finished with a season high 5 goals while Amanda Inacio added her first hat trick of the season. CSE finishes the season with a 1-13 record.
