Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team (12-10, 4-5 NEAC) fell to out of conference opponent King's College of Pennsylvania 3-0 (11-25, 15-25, 18-25) on Wednesday evening.
The Monarchs from King's jumped out to an early 10-3 lead in set 1, leading to a CSE timeout. Following the timeout,
Renata Miranda served a perfectly placed aces to get the Eagles to within 11-6. Despite getting to within 5, the Eagles were unable to get any closer, dropping the set 25-11.
The Eagles got off to a much better start in the second set as
Nicole Morera served four straight service points to give CSE a 4-0 lead. After King's fought back to take a 7-6 lead,
Christy Marte put away a kill to tie the score up at 8. The Monarchs would open an 18-10 lead after taking 8 of the next 10 points. The Eagles would slice into the Monarchs lead but would not be able to complete the comeback, dropping the set 25-15.
After falling behind 6-3 in set three,
Carolina Marte knocked home a kill to get the Eagles within 2. CSE continued to ride the momentum as they rallied back to tie the score up at 10, leading to a King's timeout. Trailing 12-11,
Nicole Morera made a diving save, leading to a CSE point and tying the match up once again at 12. The Monarchs would open up a five point lead after taking 8 of the next 11 points. The Eagles continued to fight but could not catch up, dropping the set 25-18.
Before the match, senior
Lynette Hardy was honored with a framed picture for senior day. CSE returns to action this weekend for a pivotal three game NEAC weekend at Cazenovia College beginning on Saturday.
