Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team (10-9, 4-5 NEAC) suffered a heartbreaking 5 set loss to Alvernia before dominating Culinary Institute in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles dropped a tough 5 set match to Alvernia in their first match (10-25, 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 7-15). After dropping the first set, the Eagles stormed back to take the next 2 behind great net play by Carolina and
Christy Marte, who finished with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Despite the rally, Alvernia took the final 2 sets to win the match 3-2.
Nicole Morera finished with 40 assists and 3 blocks while
Renata Miranda added a team high 15 digs.
In the second game, the Eagles jumped out early and never looked back, downing Culinary Institute 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-11).
Kiana Cunningham lead the Eagles on offense, finishing with 9 kills.
Carolina Marte added 8 kills and 12 digs while
Nicole Morera finished with 32 assists. With the 32 assists, Morera passed 500 assists on the season.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Old Westbury for a 7 pm start.
