Volleyball Falls on Senior Day

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team battled hard before falling to John Jay College, (19-25, 16-25, 25-19, and 16-25) on Senior Day.

Determined to not start off slow, the Eagles jumped out of the gate winning the first 3 points.  John Jay would fight back to take a 7-4 lead. Nicole Morera put away a beautiful kill to cut the deficit to 15-12. Morera continued her stellar play, serving 5 straight points to give the Eagles a 17-15 lead. The Bloodhounds from John Jay would not go down quietly, regaining the lead at 20-18. CSE couldn't get any closer, dropping the set 25-19.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead again in set number 2. John Jay would manage to break the set open, scoring 5 straight points to take a 12-6 lead. The Bloodhounds continued to build their lead, taking an 18-8 lead, leading to a timeout. Morera once again lead the comeback charge, scoring 5 straight service points to cut the lead to 21-13, leading to a John Jay timeout. CSE wouldn't be able to get any closer, dropping the set 25-16.

In set 3, the Eagles started slowly, trailing 8-4 early in the set. Kiana Cunningham inched CSE closer, putting away a kill to bring the deficit to 9-7. Lynette Hardy continued building the momentum for the Eagles, serving three straight service aces to open up a 13-9 lead. The Eagles continued to build a lead, taking a 17-12 lead. Despite John Jay cutting the lead to 18-16, Morera slammed away a kill, giving the Eagles a 3 point lead. CSE would complete the comeback and take set 3, 25-19.

In set 4, CSE found themselves trailing early in the set, 5-4. John Jay would start to take control midway through the set, upping their lead to 13-7. Natasia Wilson would serve 3 straight points to bring the Eagles to within 19-11. CSE couldn't manage another comeback, dropping the set 25-16.

Before the game, Ireyah Stevens was honored with a framed picture for Senior Day. Alesandria DeSapio was also honored before the game with a framed picture as cross country's senior.  Today was also Military Appreciation Day, where Ashley Morera, twin sister of Nicole Morera, and James McGrath, father of Head Coach Susan McGrath, were honored for their military service. The Eagles finished the year with a 10-21 record.
